## The Lingering Curse This is a curse that happens in life, but is realized after death: certain actions, contact with certain spiritually-resonant things, can tie your soul to this world. Generally, a “ghost” is a soul trapped for its own reasons, or for selfish reasons, and a “spirit” is one with more altruistic reasons, but the divide is not clear or sharp. But immaterial, invisible souls linger readily enough. And when they linger, especially the more emotion they can harvest, the more they can manifest and impact the material world. Most of the time, fear, sorrow, and anger are the easiest emotions for them to spark, and then harvest. Ghosts and spirits are not *full* psychologically complex beings, though: they are parts of a psyche, stuck to the world. If you try to converse with one, you will be impressed by how circumscribed their emotional and intellectual range turn out to be.
